History

The Montgomery House Library operates in an ordinary ranch style house in rural McEwensville, Pennsylvania. We first opened our doors in June of 1967 with 3,000 books on our shelves. Our name honors the Montgomery sisters, Jane and Margaret, who willed the building to McEwensville in the 1960’s.

We’ve changed a lot since 1967, expanding our small, but state-of-the-art collection to include films, video games, and downloadable audio and ebooks in addition to PA-wide online resources that customers can access from home, their own devices using publicly available wi-fi, or our public work stations. We are forever seeking better ways to connect people with information.

Montgomery House Library offers 45 public service hours per week, employs a full-time professional librarian, and 4 part-time staff to serve the needs of nearly 9,500 residents. Our Board of Directors, Friends of the Library, and community volunteers contribute to the ongoing success of the library.
